Gastroenterology
Our Centre incorporates Consultants who specialise in all aspects of gastroenterology including upper and lower gastrointestinal disease as well as pancreatic disorders.
In keeping with our philosophy of providing a multidisciplinary approach to the investigation and management of gastrointestinal disorders, gastroenterology is served by an Endoscopy Unit that incorporates the use of state of the art endoscopic technology as well as top class radiology and an imaging department. Our gastroenterologists work in teams with our surgeons and have close links with the departments of histopathology, haematology, biochemistry and clinical nutrition.
We specialize in the investigation and management of all forms of gastrointestinal cancers and our physicians and surgeons work closely with our oncologists ensuring that the provision of care for our cancer patients is of the highest calibre.
A number of our Consultants have a special interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and microscopic colitis and, again, the higher standard of care is achieved by close liaison with the departments of radiology, endoscopy and histopathology. The Unit also has a special interest in functional gastrointestinal disorders (see under heading neurogastroenterology)
